The Way Forward

Last week we submitted our action plan to DCMS for a safe return of cycling events in England from August 1st, and today we are pleased to announce that the plan has been approved. We will be announcing this publicly at 3pm today.

The action plan paves the way for a return of all disciplines apart from road racing and sportives, and provides event organisers with the framework and tools they need to deliver events in a Covid-secure manner.

You can now read the plan through the button below.
Today’s announcement takes us to Stage 4 of our six-stage process, with Stage 6 representing a return of all events and activities. We will be making a further announcement on our plans to progress to Stage 5 in due course.

We have also published a new Behaviour Code, which sets out what is expected of riders, officials, volunteers and spectators to ensure that events are delivered safely.
Guidance for cycling in England
Yesterday we announced changes to our guidance for cycling in England, which now permits:

  • Coaching sessions of up to 30 people, including coaches, per session.
  • Riding ‘one metre plus mitigations’ away from those from outside your household, in groups of six or fewer, rather than always needing to maintain two metres.

The 'mitigations' listed by Government to allow ‘one metre plus’ include being outdoors and being side-to-side (avoiding face-to-face contact), both of which are achieved in group riding. We requested that DCMS allow us to make this change as we appreciate the difficulties caused by needing to maintain two metre distance, and we are pleased to say that they have now agreed.
You can read all of our guidance here, and our specific guidance for coaches, leaders and instructors can be found here.
