    Default Sporting Clubrun destinations

The calendar no longer shows a destination for the Sporting ride, do they stop over the winter?

No, they probably have not just had any volunteers to lead them, so its up to the people on the day who show up. Between now and February the sporting+ rides stop as well, often led by Tim Williams, but again, destination usually determined on the day.

    Hi Chris, Wes,

Ian Hopkin and Michael Halloran organise volunteer rides leaders for sporting ecah week. I suspect that it's a case of not having sorted out the next couple of months and posted them to the calendar.

Now that Mrs Taylor is club runs Capitaine I am sure that this will be resolved shortly!

It would be good if the sporting+ could do the same .......

    Chris,
The Sporting+ does not arrange destinations for the simple reason that there is not always a Sporting+ group. Depends on whether enough people show up for the Sporting group to necessitate splitting it.

The sporting group is often huge leaving only a handful of takers for sporting+. Perhaps the split would be better if they were both called sporting and went to named destinations?

    Hi Martin,

    Definitely worth a go!

It would be good if there were a second destination, but I think the speed distinction is a good idea. A few weeks back some people came on the Sporting+ mistakenly and were pretty surprised by the speed and the fact that we didn't plan to stop. I know Ed is planning to have descriptions of these sorts of things on the new website (I wrote a ride description for the Sporting+)

Any solution or tweaks to the sporting+ run should be done with a view to getting a more equal split between sporting and sporting+ groups. Most clubs limit group sizes, the size of the sporting group is at times a hazard and must be of concern to the committee.

Personally I would be in favour of a steadier pace sporting+ ride with year round cake if it encouraged a few more takers.

There usually is a Sporting+ in the winter that stops, since there are many more people who usually race around on the clubruns. I'm open to the idea of a second group going with a stop. Ultimately though its up to the ride leaders to split the group, and be firm about it. People will want to go with the slow group, or fast group, or their mates, etc. So the leaders must be firm and say "I will lead a group of 10".
After last Sunday's sporting + I'm certainly in favour of a steadier ride. Apparently John and Tom Begg are training for some unknown Christmas race!

I'd say it probably would help with an appointed ride leader and a destination for the Sporting+ group as well. It would reduce the uncertainty and faffing about on Sunday mornings. Personally I'm fine with a cake and coffee stop, a stop to pick up a sandwich and a drink at a petrol station, or none at all, but would really want to know if I need to bring something to eat along if there is no stop. I'm happy to volunteer as a ride leader for the sporting+ till the racing season gets going again.
