Does anyone know about the transponder system that SERRL use?
How much is it? Would it be good for Hog Hill? How good is it?
Could we add a racing tax of £1 for every senior rider who races at Hog Hill, to go towards purchase.
This I understand would guarantee accuracy of results and free people to do other things like race or commentate etc.

Surely there is no point in having that and a photo finish!? Bit of a waste of money if the photo finish is used correctly don't you think?

You would still need to have judges in the box for the whole event, as someone need to record: Who has laps out and how many, Who has been lapped and how many times. Also when the photo finish camera or the transponder system fails, do you just say to the riders "sorry no points for this event as we did not have any judges" :(

I used transponders in vets race last week, they seemed to work ok.anythink that could help the judges would be a good thing.i have been in races were there many have been some cheeting going on,so these may help to stop this.there was a long wait while they were being sorted out,so riders should bear this in mind when signing on ect.
i wondered if you could have your own transponer??that could be left on your forks for the season.anyway i would have no problem with fitting one myself, although a nice white one would look nice on my forks.sorry just trying to look the part.

The LVRC have just bought one at a cost of £14k, the transponders are £80 each. When i raced motorcycles when had to purchase our own transponders and ensure they were registered, personally I could see a similar system working for cycling where nearly all racers own their own and then one day licence riders rent one at a cost of £5 with a deposit. That would keep the initial capital lower. As more oranisations purchase the kit the use becomes easier.
Frankly I think there needs to be some joined up thinking here, organisations are already laying out the capital for the hardware with no long term approach and the possibility exisits that there may be a surplus of equipment in the future, so it's best to get the infrastructure planned now.
As Joan rightly says, you'll still need people just in case the system fails.

hi richard, going back to the transponders again,i road the lvrc race with you a few weeks ago but see in cycling that you were 10th?club said api, does that mean the transponder was not set up to my details or did you beat me?i was just wondering how easy even with these set up mistakes can happen.

I'm not sure what happened, I do know they had issues with the system and had to revert / check against a manul record. My team mate counted me over the line in 7th which I'd agree which know how many people were up the road.
