Has anyone else noticed how many riders turn up with no bar end plugs? Drives me mad. Not like they're too expensive now, is it!

BCF Technical regulation:

3.2.3 Handlebar ends shall be plugged, not merely covered by tape, and other projections shall be protected as far as possible.

Shame the old bike check was abandoned. I don't fancy having a 26mm biopsy taken of my leg in a crash.

cor yeah - them were the days - bike checks - you had to get to races extra early, so you could get everything done in time...

I heard that the reason they abandoned it was that someone sued the club doing the bike check, as it had been checked, passed, but something had failed during the race??

Is this correct??

Yeah, I think the rise of the compensation culture led to bike checks being removed from the pre-race ritual, responsibility is now completely with the rider and his trusty steed.

I agree with Racy Rich, I soil my shorts every time I?m behind a rider without bar end plugs. The thought of crashing is bad enough, but crashing with no plugs in ???.

Perhaps the Eastway bike check tokens can be used as substitute beer tokens at the Ghent six.

Rich. ? Did you not ride the ?Stephen Roche? ?
:D

They cheated at Ghent last year. I had a couple of tokens left over from the previous year but they'd actually changed their vouchers. And the beer. Light or dark beer now, but different prices, so 2 colours of vouchers.
And no, didn't do the Stephen Roche, whatever that is/was! A randonee thing?
Surely you know my true identity Brett?

Why should you worry about crashes Mr Zucchini?, all the crashes you see are behind you

- and I don't get your cryptic name - can you enlighten me?

Racy Rich,

I would have thought the link between Eastway beer tokens and Ghent six may have been a hint that I knew your identity. Now if I had mentioned the long black SS style coat from 2 years ago it may have given the game away. The VR thread you contributed to re. ?gutter riding? in Herts with the dark dry humor was the give away.

Stephen Roche Randonee (Sportif) sounds like old bearded men on bikes, quite the opposite.

Anyway, catch you soon, I?m off to cross train - a bit of breast stroke in a local Islington Pool

BianchBen,

Must must go, I'm getting a horrible vision of a radio mast, in Herts I think, now a horse ................

Hope you and (more importantly) the wife are well, best wishes for Nov.

Cheers,

CZ

Look, just cos you found your sprint this year doesn't mean you can always get easy results. A long break will get you up too. Steady....
