I'm off to Majorca in March to be given a kicking by some old boys from up North.

I am after advice on how to transport my bike - bag, box, nothing, hiring a box?? As usual cost is an issue.

I look forward to benefiting from your valuable experiences.

Thanks everyone but I must stop you there, I have already had a very generous offer of the use of a bike box.

Although if you want to add your experiences, it might be of use to others.

Just one point, if you are packing other things in the bike box (like most of us do) make sure that it stays under 32 kilos. This is the maximum weight the baggage handlers are allowed to shift.

I know of one story where someone had packed everything in the box and as it was weighed at the airport at 39 kilos he had to empty it there into friend's bags, carrier bags etc before the airline would take it.

Keep the box as light as possible, in my experience it minimises damage. Light bulky items, eg stack hat, ideal. Fill with bubble wrap.

Buy an Airnimal folding bike. Looks and rides just like a road bike. It has 24" wheels which are aero and light. Goes into a normal suitcase with all your clothing etc. www.airnimal.com . Oh and bye the way mine's for sale when I come back from Mallorca on 27th Feb :)
