So, that time of year again - who will win the ERRL this year? Cambridge have a tough job to perform at the same levels again this year, and with a very strong squad (but will they ride? 8) ) Glendene look in good form to challenge. Interbike also look to be more organised than last year - or will someone else step in to upset the applecart?

Here's a link to last year's results to refresh your memory:

http://www.errl.org.uk/clubStandings.php?year=2005

(top 4 from last year as 'named' candidates!)

I heard Shaun Sumner from interbike was tearing up the St Ives club run at the weekend. I think interbike will be the closest but my vote is Cambridge CC Even minus Moi ;-)....

So who ARE you riding for, Dan?

Don't believe everything you hear Dan. I suffered like a dog when you were out the other week.

Interbike have more 2nd cats this year and hopefully we'll be able to challenge for the overall, but there are a lot of good riders out there. Should be interesting

10 votes for Cambridge? From the look of the start sheet for the Crest, they don't look very serious - only one rider entered. And only one pre-entered for the Simon Hook as well.

....yer I did wonder myself why there was only one Cambridge rider in the Crest, maybe they have been paid to stay away for the first few races. :?:

Looking very improbable. Entries already being refused as we're not listed as ERRL members, even though I'm told membership was approved at the AGM. Not being there, and no report on here, I don't know what was said.

ChrisB

As I said in reply to an earlier communication - where are the race details? You HAVE to promote a race to be in the league!

PS Not many more Cambridge riders in the Ed Taylor - complacency? 8)

ChrisB

I've just had an e-mail from the boss of Herongate Cycles. It appears he thought it was OK to join the league this year but not promote until 2007. Clearly, this isn't going to happen. It's not too late to organise a race for this year, though.

He obviously got the impression at the AGM that it was acceptable. Time to find the minutes....

ChrisB
27-02-2006, 12:57 PM
There's NO WAY the AGM would have agreed to that. There might have been talk of assisting another club in a promotion, much like the Angliasport did last year, but 'free' membership for a year? No chance.

Maybe we're all ill, maybe our objectives are elsewhere, maybe we're all taking up sportives or ice skating instead. It's nice to be noticed for not being there anyway, shows you care though Chris, which is quite nice. The one thing it's not, is complacency.

Were you there?

I agree I can't imagine the AGM agreeing it, but either Dave was misled by the AGM, or he's misled his riders. As he has a receipt of paying ERRL subs, I'm at a loss to define the situation. The club is a paid up ERRL member. Are we effectively suspended from full membership until a race is organised?

ChrisB
27-02-2006, 02:45 PM
Yes, I was there Rich, but I don't particularly remember the discussion, or even if it was discussed. Peter hasn't distributed the minutes, so I can't comment further on what was said. Payment of subs is largely irrelevant - if you aren't organising a race, then you can't be in the league. I doubt anyone is misleading anyone, most likely there's been a misunderstanding between Dave and the league.

Barky

I think if one club gets away with not organising a race they'll be hell to pay from the others, the League will be in trouble. Lets get this sorted.

Quite. I want the chance to show you lot just how unfit it's possible to get and still pretend you can race :)

I was at the agm , and as I recall Dave Porter asked for his new club to be accepted in the league, and I along with many others voted him in. I seem to recall he promised to put on some circuit races and to help out the Shaftesbury run their road race, and then put on a proper one in 2007.
I'm sure I didn't dream this, as I didn't dream about the maximum riders rule which was also debated at this meeting.

As you'll all have seen, all settled now.

Excerpt from Pete Little:
'According to the notes taken by the Chairman at the AGM, the Herongate were accepted for membership.........................Therefore their entries should be accepted by organisers, who are aware of the new member clubs'

Obviously the latter part isn't true since Michael Gardner's had his entry back from one race, and made a reserve to another, on the basis of not being in a league club. Exactly as happened to Angliasport last year. No lessons learned there then.

ChrisB

I'd beg to differ. Angliasport were listed on the website last year. This year, Heron CS were not. Different situations.

Also, I like your editing of Peter's email. Some of the text left out:

on the understanding they assist another club who is struggling to organise an event this year

Now, are the Shaftesbury struggling? I know there have been talks with the Elite CC as well, but you could argue that the conditions of membership haven't been met. Regardless, it's a done deal and welcome to the League.

racyrich
28-02-2006, 02:45 PM
My point was that organisers have apparently been told Heron ARE members, so why was his entry returned? I omitted the conditions of membership as that didn't affect the logic.
I also assumed that organisers work from the info sent by Pete, rather than rely on a website they may not have access to.

Anyway, enough now. :D

ChrisB

Which organiser/s are involved? We've already had problems with the Interbike getting 'warnings' from the Ed Taylor organiser, because they weren't on the website (but presumably were on the hard copy sent to organisers).

I think, in order to avoid this sort of thing next year, clubs MUST have submitted their race details to both BC and the ERRL before they'll be listed on either set of information. That will provide an incentive to all concerned!

racyrich

Michael was rejected from the Crest and made a reserve in the Ed Taylor, both on account of his club.

I think Glendene will take it this year.

Great win on Sunday Dan
Alex Dowsett 2nd year junior (with a big future) gave Dan the credit
for getting back to the break during the Andrews Trophy. "to quote" you were tearing his legs off !! he also appreciated the coments made after the race.
