View Full Version : Lift-hunting for early ERRL events

Hello, just got a BC licence for the first time and am intending to enter the Crest and the Ed Taylor for starters.

I live in Central London, and would normally get the train to Bishops Stortford for the Crest event, but there are engineering works that weekend. There is the last ditch option of a horribly early train to Harlow (where the works start) and riding out to Ugley, but a lift from somewhere within 5 or 10 miles of Old Street would be a lot nicer!

There'd be a long ride from a station to Haverhill as well, so also hoping for a lift to the Ed Taylor.

I don't think anyone from my club (Lea Valley CC) is intending to race, so I'm casting the net further afield.

Hope this was the right place to post the request - fingers crossed etc.

Cheers,
Scarlett.

This is exactly what the club huts are for! Staying overnight near the race. I'm sure the Crest will put you up for theirs, the Haverhill is trickier of course.
Talk to the Crest race organiser.

Thanks for the tip. Trouble is I'm likely to be shackled to my computer and shelf of textbooks all day and evening on the Saturday due to a number of deadlines for hefty pieces of coursework, so was hoping to keep the bike-associated time confined to Sunday.

There's the Lea Valley hut too - not quite as 'swanky' as the Crest's.

Apparently when my uncle was racing for the Crest in the 60s/70s? he threw a tantrum and went home the night before a race cos all the other members were being pissed and rowdy and spoiling his preparation. He's become a little more laid back since then.

Thanks for the link, Nigel. I'm in contact with Leslie from Team Economic Energy. If she's taking James up there, I'll probably go up with them.

See you on the day.
