I came off me bike on the way home from work last week in Girton (near Cambridge). I've mentioned this to several mates and all of them have come off recently and are now taking corners much more gingerly. I know the conditions aren't great this time of year but just lately it seems to us to be a lot worse.
Someone at work had heard - and this may be b****cks - that the council are putting molasses in with the salt they are using on the roads to make it stick and not get chucked to the side of the road.
Anyone else having trouble?

Just been reading posts on the beardies forum (uk.rec.cycling). Seems lots of people are at it. Also talking of wheelspinning when putting power down - which I've also been doing despite an amazing lack of power.
They also mentioned something else which has been happening to me and others; getting plastered in black sh*t. Looks like I've done a cyclo-cross on the way to work.

...yes agree the roads seem worse this year then what I can remember !!?? Every time I get out the saddle the back end is all over the place !! I think that the salt mixture has been changed and whatever they added or have taking away has made it like a skating rink out there ?? :?

Heavy rain forcasted for Wednesday,I think you'll find OK after the roads have had a good wash, meanwhile take care!

Yes agree with that. We haven't had a good downpour for ages - just that misty murky stuff that makes the road slightly damp with our washing off all the mud, clay and salt that has built up over the last few weeks.

It's also been very calm for ages but I'm not disappointed in that - cue hurricane!
