View Full Version : Help!!! I'm in danger of mothballing my bike!!!!

Last sunday we were out for over 5 1/2 hours (including time taken to get to and from home), for at least 2 1/2 hours of this it was raining - it wasn't nice

A week or so before that it was a nice day but so cold that it took a whole hour for me to get the feeling back in my toes after I got home

Pleeeeeeeease can C run leaders consider making the club runs shorter over winter. Its either cold / wet / both / horrible / generally not very nice and soon I'm just going to give up if they carry on like this which means I'll be a right slow coach and lardy arse by Spring completely undoing all the hard work this year. Pleeease no more than 40 miles tops and less would be no problem for me. Its just not macho to kill yourself outdoors at this time of year!

On a brighter note I've just booked a cycling holiday in steaming Vietnam for late next year!!! :D :D :D :D :D

It is simple to say but do mention it at the start to the C leader - I think you are right, that the total time out is important it terms of comfort and feeling good.
It was raining on the other ride as well and the only way I deal with it is to see it as making the good weather rides even better, as there is a sense of feeling you have earned them - and you feel superior to the fair weather riders who come out then.
Pal up with someone else who may only fancy a three hour total and after an hour and a half peel off with them - letting the leader know you are going of course.
With success - and the numbers turning out is very good for so late in the year - come problems of suiting all those that turn up. But do discuss the ride at the start this week with the leader.

on the subject of cold wet dark winters...... just remember (whilst the hail is pinging off your nose, the icicles have fused your eyelashes together and your frozen lips can no longer form comprehensible vowel sounds) that you have to experince both the bad and the ugly to value the good!!! (makes all those summer rides much nicer!) Or, if we are to be true brits.....we will be complaining about the heat!

I do understand how you feel......but more because it takes hours to clean the bike after getting back.....but press on....will be worth it in the end...no pain no gain....see it as a challenge!

Take care

Couple of hours on the turbo is what you need, that'll get you warmed up.
